About

"Why does this page look like a blog post?"

HK Arnold

I'm an Australian writer drawn to dark fantasy and dragons in all forms. My writing circles power and identity; the shaping forces of survival, the pervasive pressure of culture and the quiet violence that lingers just beneath the surface.

I'm currently querying my novel, drafting its sequel, and working on a standalone fantasy exploring how words, both whispered and screamed, can reform a person from the inside out.

I share regular blogs about writing craft and creative transformation, from my self-taught and ever evolving perspective. You can read them first on my website, or on my Substack.

For more casual updates (plus photos of my two *excessively* fluffy cats and encroaching houseplant infestation), follow me on Instagram. Living in subtropical Queensland, there's never a shortage of lush leaves and thunderstorms to share.

When I'm not building narratives of survival and transmutation, I devour stories (books, movies, anime, chats over drinks with board games on the side), and struggle to keep my League rank in Diamond. I've worked in entertainment, art, law, bookkeeping (I collect experiences the way some collect scars), and keep my many identities fractured but free for those perceptive enough to piece them back together.
